We're Heading to StudentHack!

Rebecca Lawton

PR Assistant

I never met a problem that cheese couldn't solve.

We had such a great time last year at StudentHack, that we’re sponsoring the event again this year – and this time, we’ll be head-judging best in show.

StudentHack is a 24-hour hackathon taking place over 28th-29th April 2018, and we’re excited to see teams come together and make great ideas come to life.

What do we look for in a show-stopping hack?

StudentHack will take place over slightly less than two full days, and you’d be amazed what you can put together when you put your mind to it. Here are the main things that we look for in a winning hack:

Passion

Passion shines out of people, and it shows they love what they do. It’s great to see hacks that are built with love.

Originality

Your hack doesn’t have to be completely new, but it should have an element of newness to it. Try and think outside the box.

Progression

We’re not looking for perfection, we want to see a team who has learnt something in the process.

Who’s the judge?

This year, we’ll be head judge of best in show.

Craig Dean is Chief Executive of Web Applications UK and Chairman of Hack Oldham

One of his favourite things to do is go to hackathons, and Craig has been privileged to judge at a number of hack events over the past six years.

There’s nothing Craig is more passionate about than learning, growth and development. He sees mentoring young developers and students as the most important part of his job, and has the privilege of being able to deliver guest lectures at universities such as Manchester, MMU and Salford.

So what are you waiting for? If you want to win best in show, you need to do one thing; make it new!

What could you win?

Now for the part you’ve all been waiting for. We’re throwing it way back this year, by offering each of our winners of Best in Show;

1 x Nintendo Games Console
