Teaming up with O2’s Think Big School initiative, we’re bring digital skills to Tameside schools. Tuesday saw the first of four sessions, held at Fairfield High School for Girls. We sent along Ian, Senior Software Engineer and Code Club extraordinaire to share his expertise.

The students were split into small groups and asked to come up with ideas for an app. Between them, they need to ensure their idea is commercially viable then design and develop it using AppShed. Each member of the group will have their own role within their mini enterprise.

During the first day, they had the chance to develop their ideas together and gain the required skills during a series of workshops. This will take place in three more schools over the course of next week – New Charter Academy, Droylsden Academy and Astley Sports College & Community High School.

Students from all schools will then come together for a second session at Tameside College where they will present their final projects. This is a fantastic event, instilling business and digital skills in our young people. And this is just the beginning. We’re hoping to expand this to other schools in the very near future, so watch this space!
