So it goes

Last night, we attended the prestigious Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner held at The Point, Lancaster County Cricket Club. Arguably the most influential business dinner in the North West, as Oldham President, Craig attended with a group of Webbies and a number of close friends of Web Applications UK as guests.

The line-up for the evening was impressive and the previous years have set an extremely high precedent. Last night, we were treated to speakers from the world of business, politics and comedy. The Rt Hon Danny Alexander MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury discussed various topical issues including the economy, tax avoidance and benefits of being in the EU. He put major emphasis on how it is important to stick to the path we are on in order to get us through the current tough times.

After a delicious starter, we were then entertained by Jonathan Myers, West Europe Vice President of Kellogg’s. Celebrating its  75th anniversary this week, Jonathan explained how Kellogg’s have set up more than one thousand breakfast clubs in schools over the last decade, focusing on how it is vital that as businesses, we continue the tradition of helping others to move Manchester forward.

Two more courses down, it was time for Jimmy Carr! Dubbed as the face of Channel 4 comedy, Jimmy had the entire room laughing within minutes and kept the laughter flowing throughout his set.

Towards the end of the evening there was a raffle with the prizes including a night at The Hilton Hotel, Manchester, a trip to Haydock Racecourse and two tickets to Washington DC courtesy of United Airlines! All of the money raised from the donations went to the chosen charity for the evening, Youth Charter. Based in The UK, Youth Charter tackles educational non-attainment, health inequality, anti-social behaviour and many other problems by applying the ethics of sport. Using a multi-faceted approach, Youth Charter do great work in engaging, motivating and inspiring young people. The Annual Dinner raised over £4,000 for this amazing cause.

As expected, a great evening was had by all, providing an excellent opportunity to celebrate business excellence in Greater Manchester and the work the chamber do to assist the businesses of Manchester.
