Chinese New Year represents the first day of the first month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar system.  As Chinese New Year 2013 fell on Sunday 10th February we chose to celebrate on Monday 11th February.

In keeping with both Web Applications UK and Chinese tradition, we enjoyed some delicious dumplings cooked by Software Engineers Mengjie and Shui. This was my first ever taste of the Asian delicacy and they were very tasty, especially when dipped in soy sauce. They were that tasty, that they were all gone within 10 minutes!

Alongside Chinese food, we also had our names translated by Mengjie. Not only did he write it in Mandarin, he also explained what it meant. Some of the explanations included pretty, funny, beautiful, brave and handsome. I think we all 100% agree with those! Naomi’s was a particular favourite of mine as when translated literally it meant ‘beautiful rice’.

The 2013 year of the snake is going to be an exciting year for many. The snake is known for showcasing wisdom and continuously seeking purpose, gravitating towards the inner depths of life.

Happy Chinese New Year!
