The Most Christmassy Christmas Party Ever

I know it was you, Fredo.

The Web Applications UK Christmas parties are always legendary but this year’s is sure to go down in history as the best party of all time!

Hosted at the National Football Museum in Manchester, the night began with a champagne reception and a trip in the diagonal elevator up to have a walk around the museum. When we arrived on the first floor, we were greeted with a festive brass band ensemble who played a range of Christmas songs to get everyone into the spirit. Being on the first floor allowed us to see our amazing area for the evening, check it out below!

As the meal was about to be served, we descended the stairs to take our seats at the tables. The tables were laid out ready for the meal, complete with crackers and festive cake pop centrepieces made by Sweet and Sinful Cupcakes by Sue. The secret Santa presents for distributed for us Webbies and jars of cookie mix for plus ones and special guests, including some ex-Webbies.

During the starter, we filled out Guess Who, a picture type quiz where everyone had to guess the name of famous people and some Webbies through a series of pictures, with the winners receiving a bottle of champagne!

The night was full of surprises but arguably the best and most unexpected surprise was Craig’s speech. An annual occurrence, Craig likes to reflect on the year and thank everyone for all of their hard work. Now, in order to fulfil Craig’s promise of this party being the most Christmassy Christmas party ever, Craig’s speech was written in the style of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas. The speech illustrated the fantastic year we’ve had at Web Applications UK and was greeted with a massive round of applause.

When the main course arrived, we were joined by around 20 members of the Manchester Chamber Choir who sang Christmas songs whilst we ate our food. Singing a range of Christmas carols, the choir captured their audience and instilled Christmas spirit in us all.

Just before dessert came the most anticipated event of the evening, the Webbie Awards ceremony! The worthy winners were announced and given their trophies and prizes. Some made Oscar-style acceptance speeches, while others did a little dance.

On top of the choir, the brass band, the champagne, Craig’s speech and cake pops, more surprises were in store! Set up as Santa’s grotto, we hired a photo booth for the evening where everyone could dress up in props and capture moments from the night. Breaking away from my usual shy and retiring self, I decided to go in first but before I knew it, a queue was forming and people were keen to get in. All of the pictures are online but here are some favourites:

It is well known around Web Applications UK that Developers don’t do disco so I was intrigued to see what would happen. However, this theory was massively disproven when our Chief Executive, Craig and Services Manager, Rob cleared the dance floor with their rendition of Gangnam Style! This clearly set the trend and before we knew it, the dance floor was full of developers throwing shapes!

The final surprise of the night was when our special guest arrived at about 10pm, our very own Santa Claus! Posing for photos in and out of the booth, dancing and Ho-Ho-Hoing, Santa created some great moments in that night.

All in all, a great night was had by everyone and it definitely lived up to everyone’s expectations of the best and most Christmassy Christmas party ever!
