BGC: Throwing Down the Gauntlet

Those who believe in telekinetics, raise my hand.

Board Game Club is still going strong; reaching it’s fourth event last Friday where attendees started with a game of club-favourite, 7 Wonders. Kris was looking to make it his fourth win in a row, but nobody was going to let him have it without a fight. Veering away from his usual strategy of “build a big army and then punch my neighbours in the teeth” proved costly for Kris.  John capitalised on this misjudgement, out-fighting, out-thinking and outwitting everyone else in the game.  He managed to clock up the highest number of victory points we’ve ever seen; throwing down the gauntlet for future games.

For the remainder of the evening, the players split into two groups to try out some new games.  In room one, John, Kris, Rob and Mark tried out Carcassonne, a tile placement game.  Players take turns to place tiles representing a piece of countryside in or around the southern French city of Carcassonne, building up a landscape and scoring victory points by controlling regions.  Rob claimed the first win, then in a close fought rematch, John took his second win of the evening!

Meanwhile, in room two, Joe, Lee, Peter and guest-player Jenny became rival plantation owners in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. Rob said that he’d scarcely heard so many lame excuses for being beaten! Jenny claimed a comfortable win, leaving Joe to explain that “he’d forgotten how evil she can be” and Lee declaring that he’d “forgotten how to play the game.”

Once again, Board Game night was a great success! As ever, anyone is welcome to come to the next meeting on Friday 31st August.
