Taking a look at one of the most talked about services in the social networking space.
Pinterest is a social media platform that from the beginning of this year garnered increased attention from the public. It was set up in 2009 by a small group from California and has continued to grow over the past three years. In January 2012 it became the fastest site in history to break through the 10 million mark of unique users by attracting 11.7 million people.
So if you haven’t heard of Pinterest, where have you been? Pinterest is a virtual pin board where users upload pictures of things they are passionate about or images they have seen that they would like to share. You can set up boards of photos that share the same theme; a mini scrapbook if you will. Other users can then follow your pins and your images will be posted on to their boards, giving you even further reach.
The reason behind this blog was to see if Pinterest would be something Web Applications could use. After researching the social media site I think it would be a great way for us to share our Webbie community with the rest of the world. Engaging with people is something we at Web Applications find really important; we’re a very friendly company! Content is king so what better way to add to our social media presence than with image posting. It would give our Webbies the opportunity to express their experiences of working life and show that Web Applications truly is a great place to work.
With Pinterest being the most talked about new social start-up it was only right to put it under the Web Applications spotlight as we love keeping up to date with the latest technologies. Even Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has an account so it must be worth keeping an eye on. At the moment you can only request an invite to Pinterest so fingers crossed if we decide to join we won’t be on the waiting list for too long. Check back for updates!
