So it goes

Jennifer shares her experience of working at Web Applications UK, as the end of her 6-week summer placement approaches.

Web Applications UK were kind enough to give me a work placement for six weeks over my summer holiday from college. After a slightly scary beginning, I soon felt very welcome and as if I had become a member of the working team. , design team and with the admin staff. I particularly enjoyed working on new designs for the company newsletter and creating inventories

I was usually based with the software developers, where I was assigned a mentor/supervisor to help me in my work placement and guide me through any problems I was having. It was a big reassurance to know that I had someone to turn to throughout my time at WebApps. My mentor also spent time teaching me new skills, as I wasn’t familiar with the programming language I was working with. But the help I was offered meant I learned a lot about programming and how it is used in a business environment. I was also given the chance to shadow different technical roles, which allowed me the experience of helping with customer issues and it gave me insight into the range of WebApps clients.

My time at WebApps has flown by and I’m very grateful for the opportunities the company has given me. I can now progress to university with experience in a developer environment and I have a wider understanding of the working world. I only wish more companies were willing to give students a chance! I wish the business the best of luck in the future.
