Today marks the first weekly Movember Update. The number of participants in Movember have quadrupled and, providing four male facial models sporting the beginning stages of a moustache.

For the month of Movember, Rob, Lee, Safder and Jeff will all be growing moustaches. Every Friday there will be an update, The State of the ‘Stache, if you will – to see how the Movember Men are progressing.

Technically, Movember started four days ago so Lee and Rob Illing already have bona fide moustaches, whilst Safder and Jeff remain in the opening stages. Even so, we can see how everyone is getting along.  Web Applications UK has offered to match all contributions made to the campaign.

In case any of you are craving a short history of Movember, here it is:

The name comes from the conjunction of moustache, AKA a ‘Mo’ and the month of November to create Movember. The idea of Movember started in 2003 in Melbourne Australia, legend says there may have been alcohol involved. The plan? To raise money for men’s health AND get some fun out of the beleaguered moustache.

In 2004 the campaign evolved to focus on the number one cancer affecting men – prostate cancer. In 2004, 432 Mo Bros joined the movement, raising (AUD) $55,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia. The Movember campaign has seen healthy growth since then and has expanded to the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, South Africa, The Netherlands and Finland. In 2009, 255,755 Mo Bros and Mo Sistas across the world raised £26 Million (UK Pounds). The funds raised through Movember’s UK campaign go to The Prostate Cancer Charity (TPCC), the UK’s leading prostate cancer charity.

In addition to feeling good about yourself for raising money for a great cause and being able to sport a rockin’ moustache, Mo Bros (and Sistas) can also win prizes! Yes that’s right folks, Movember has a number of Prizes for its participants who raise the most money, as well as prize draws for those who raise as little as £25. There are also prizes for best moustache, best character, as well as an encouragement award called The Lame Mo – something for everyone.

If you would like more information about this worthy cause, please visit the Movember website.
