Today Web Applications released Babel version 2.7. Some of the key new features include:

  • Rewritten service code, for increased stability and performance.
  • Enhanced security system, with fully functional session promotion/demotion and restriction zones. Also includes numerous memory saving and performance improvements.
  • Rewritten router code, for enhanced control and performance, including optimised per-message setting of message storage/retrieval.
  • Numerous memory usage improvements, and performance enhancements throughout the core system.
  • New database handling code to automatically and intelligently choose active database connections.

Speaking of the new features, Craig Dean said, “We’re really happy about some of the improvements coming in 2.7. Not only do we feel it represents a big improvement in stability and performance, but some of the new features really show off the power of Babel as an enterprise level solution. The database load balancing and connection pooling custom algorithms alone offer a new level of choice for network administrators to ensure system robustness and performance, unseen in comparable systems. A lot of the changes are really under the hood and will allow us to continue developing Babel even further over the coming months, as we continue, on schedule, towards a version 3 release.”Babel 2.7 will be released to existing clients as part of their ongoing license, and at no additional charge.
