Web Application UK’s new designer is coming up with some fresh ideas to revamp our web presence. In addition to inventing some new icons within our reporting system Br-ease, our designer, John, has designed a new look for the entire website and taken it to a whole new level. We assure you that the website will retain all of that signature charm you have come to know and expect from Web Applications though it will definitely be different and, I like to think, a welcome change.
The first artistic stage for any true designer is the sketch book and John is no exception. He has a plethora of sketches, all nicely ordered, around his desk, some completed and others abandoned but all are useful for reference. From the sketches the ideas start to get put online in Adobe Illustrator. The new images and layouts spend some time in illustrator and perhaps Photoshop before they are ready for review. Things are really starting to come together and it’s a very exciting new look.
The first thing you will notice about the new homepage is its background colour; it is going to be very light. As much as Web Applications has loved its current website, we as a company are continually growing and changing and we feel our website should reflect that. John is using lots of designer skills to reinvent the website, including a clever way of spacing out the content using the rule of thirds - I could tell you more but I don’t want to spoil the surprise for its unveiling ceremony.
One of the big new improvements with this site will be its movement and interaction with the user. The top pane of the site will have a scrolling banner and under that drop down menus to give the overall page more movement, which in turn will make it more interesting. The centre of the page will have our associated partners to keep our real software-house style look, and the bottom of the page will have all our ‘latest’s, latest news, latest tweets, latest polls. We hope to make the polls more user-engaging and have our clients participate in a meaningful way. The news and tweets will display a little less information than they do at the moment in an attempt to preserve space and guard against cluttering. The top and bottom bands of the webpage will be the signature black and will involve the classic Web Applications World banner. Many members of our team are also very excited to showcase their JQuery expertise for the whole world to see.
Overall the new homepage will incorporate more colours, many of our current icons have been re-imagined, and the feel of it will be very interactive. I have seen some of the blueprints for the new website and I believe it has a gentler feel to it. I hope everyone takes advantage of the new functionality and will participate in the polls and visit our new facebook page and LinkedIn profile. What changes would you like to see in the new website?
