As the most recent addition to the Web Applications UK team I have the honour of introducing myself as the new PRA (Public Relations Assistant) and as such it is my role to let you know the company’s comings and goings and provide you with all the useful information and updates. I am delighted to be joining this community (I’m already excited about next year’s Webbie Awards) and look forward to being your personal News Anchor.

I like to regard introductions as the beginning of a long relationship, or as the inestimable Bogey said, “the start of a beautiful friendship”. Written introductions are somewhat more difficult because they seem so very one-way at the time; in fact it is a conversation that just takes a little more time to mature, much like a Parmigiano cheese (or a computer geek). Allow me to begin by telling you about my day.

I made my way to the office this morning to begin my first day of work and already it was a battle. Between the snow, ice and slush my feet were soaking wet. The discomfort of my feet paled in comparison to my palm, which was the first part of my body to hit the ground as I fell on the way to my bus stop. A bus, by the way, that never managed to show up. Imagine my relief when I finally arrive at my destination, a wonderfully modern (and nicely heated) office which had a desk with my name on it. The shovels on the inside of the door still had bits of snow on them, indicating their use in carving out a path outside. A small gesture, very much appreciated, and a sure sign of the care my colleagues take in everything they do.

In many ways my job here will never be done. The masses of new innovations and improvements necessitate someone available who will tell the world about all the exciting things that are happening here every day. In other ways I am racked with fear that this time next year some AI robot that looks eerily like Jude Law will be sitting in my chair. If that happened though, I won’t be complaining so long as I can still make it to the Christmas Party.

As I sign off I would like to make a note, instead of saying goodbye, I say see you next time.
