Let’s get everything out in the open. Kerry is a lawyer. Yeah, yeah, she’s a Project Manager now, but I personally believe once a lawyer always a lawyer. You will have to excuse the occasional lawyer joke in this post that might not have anything to do with the topic.
To be fair, hitherto and henceforth (though not heretofore) Kerry assents to the assertion that she does not engage in the practice of, adherence to, or aggregate more knowledge of, law, and has not actively engaged in the practice of law from the time of her completion of her Masters which shall henceforth be deemed ‘MA’ in the field of I.T. Enough of that I don’t have the legalese to keep it going anymore. Kerry realised at some point (obviously after her degree) that she did not in fact want to become a solicitor. Unfortunately for Kerry, she came to this understanding too late for me to hold back my abuse. Sorry Kerry, innocent until proven broke.
Moving on for a moment, let’s find out what Kerry does at Web Applications. She started in 2008 and enjoyed two full weeks of freedom before our uniforms were introduced, meaning Kerry has witnessed their full evolution. As a Project Manager, Kerry’s life is predominately occupied with writing and responding to emails. It’s an exciting life as a Project Manager, reading non-existent nuances into documents, and making up completely inadvertent hidden meanings. It’s a full time job interpreting completely straightforward correspondences, but someone has to do it. As a former lawyer it should not really come as a surprise the area where Kerry really excels. Specification writing.
Whilst most people view specification writing (or spec-ing) as a necessary evil, a task where the importance is clear but the enthusiasm is lacking; Kerry sees it as an opportunity to shine. With a background that focuses more on I.T. Management than I.T., Kerry is ideally situated to explain processes in the least technical language. This proves Kerry is a bit of an enigma in that sense as she secretly wants to become a developer; we shouldn’t spread that around too much though, there’s no need to make developers’ heads even bigger.
Sometimes, on really special days, we let Kerry out of the office to get soda cans for us from the store. She drives with Naomi to pick up the office’s supply of drinks - it is well known that this is Kerry’s favourite recurring task. I’m pretty sure can-day is Allan’s favourite day as well.
How do you tell when lawyers are lying? Their lips are moving. Whoa! In the spirit of fun with fiction, let’s look at some of Kerry’s favourite hobbies and one group she is particularly involved with is her amateur dramatics team (hold on, I think true artists call it a troupe). This season everyone in Web Applications is going to enjoy Kerry’s first foray into acting. She has been a part of the dramatics team for quite a while and most recently was their production manager, but this year Kerry has decided to move into a more on-stage role. Kerry will play Millie in one of the five plays that comprises Alan Ayckbourn’s ‘Confusions’. This is some very exciting news and I am sure that all of us at Web Applications UK would like to support Kerry in this endeavour, I for one haven’t properly heckled someone on-stage in a long time; my skills need sharpening. You can visit her group’s Facebook page here.
And one last one for the road: You know what’s wrong with Lawyer jokes? Lawyers don’t think they’re funny and no one else thinks they’re jokes.
