Rik wins Street Fighter X Tekken tournament

The Street Fighter X Tekken Xbox tournament has come to an end after a long and fierce competition. The first round led Richard, Shui and Jeff straight through to the semi-final round as they were top of the leader board. Placing fourth to joint fifth, Safder, Rob, Ben and I battled it out for the last place in the semi-final. First up it was Safder v me. After a gruelling match of skill versus button bashing, I came out on top as an expert button basher. Safder was gracious in defeat and congratulated me on my success. In the run

Oh what a night!

Oh what a night!

The highly anticipated Let’s Get Quizzical event was held last Thursday in The Brindley Room at The Castlefield Rooms, Manchester. Just under 60 Webbies were split into nine teams competing against each other in six rounds of game show related fun. Hoping to give as many prizes away as possible, the night started with Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, scrolling through hilarious photos of each of us Webbies on our ‘supercomputer’. Naomi was in charge of stopping the slideshow randomly and believe it or not, it landed on her! As expected, cries of ‘fix’ came from the audience but

Gettin’ quizzy with it

Two weeks today will see the Webbies put their general knowledge, skills and competitiveness to the test in our Let’s Get Quizzical staff outing. Since the announcement 5 weeks ago, everyone has been split up into 9 teams and are now deciding on their team names. Back in 2011, a Web Applications UK quiz night was held and many interesting team names were chosen including Universally Challenged and Hacktastic 4. I can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with this time! The teams this year are as follows: Team Team Team Team Team Kevin Ryan Gordon Keiron Andrew S

An egg-citing day for all

An egg-citing day for all

As the four day weekend approaches, that’s not the only thing getting us excited in the Web Applications UK office. Upon arrival this morning, our Webbies were greeted with lots of chocolate treats littered in hiding places around the office. It seemed the Easter bunny had been! Many were in plain sight but those often proved hardest to find as people were searching in cupboards and fridges, missing the ones stuck on the wall in clear view. Fun and laughter filled the office as everyone took on the challenge to find all of the treats. Chocolate for breakfast is definitely

Come dine with Dean

Come dine with Dean

In the second instalment of Dinner with Dean, our Chief Executive, Craig took a different group of Webbies for a meal on Wednesday. This month, the lucky ones were Software Engineer Safder, and industrial placement students Nikki and Ryan. As we had such a lovely meal last time at local Italian restaurant, Fresca we headed back there once again. The food was delicious as ever and with the golden rule of having three courses fully enforced, we enjoyed plenty of it. By the end, we were enjoying the evening so much we even stuck around for coffees! Discussing future careers

Wear a daffodil, Make a difference

Wear a daffodil, Make a difference

Throughout March, Marie Curie Cancer Care hold their Great Daffodil Appeal aiming to raise money to nurse terminally ill people. Web Applications UK have joined in with millions of people across the UK by wearing our daffodil pins. A donation, no matter how small, will make huge difference in the final hours of those who really need it. Today, we took part in Marie Curie’s national Wear Something Yellow to Work day. For a £2 donation, Web Applications UK employees were able to wear their own clothes for the day, providing they wear at least one yellow item. The offices

Return of the Frog

Return of the Frog

Since our first outing to the Frog & Bucket as a group last month, there have been many cries for a repeat visit. Some missed out on the first time while others just can’t get enough! So on Monday we gathered together for another night of Beat the Frog. Our compere for the evening was once again Phil Ellis who was his usual hilarious self. Bonding with one member of the front row in particular, he had us all laughing to the point of tears as he poked fun at the audience member’s ridiculously expensive red trainers… I guess you

Team Web Apps take on Team WAUKCE in first game of the season

Team Web Apps take on Team WAUKCE in first game of the season

Last night saw the return of the Webbie 5 aside game at the Soccer Factory in Rochdale. Its long awaited return was greeted with open arms as the lads were keen to don their kit again and get back onto the pitch! Fighting talk was flowing around the office all day in preparation for team Web Apps to take on team WAUKCE in the first game of the year. They looked the part and were all set in their official kits, aren’t they smart? As the game got underway, it took a while for the first goal until a pass
