What’s the deal?
Every year we take on paid industrial placement students for 12 months between their penultimate and final years of their undergraduate degree. We also offer voluntary and paid summer internships which are open to anyone who wants to gain some work experience in the software development industry.

What does the role involve?
All our placement students work as Software Engineers. You’ll work on our clients’ systems and gain experience of every aspect of the software development cycle. Writing code in a variety of different languages, you will be exposed to a full range of the latest technologies.  We are committed to making sure our students gain the widest possible exposure to different software developer roles, including support, testing, database design and maintenance, as well as back end and front end software development.  A placement at Web Applications sets you up for a career in IT, and the best possible grade in your final year.

What qualifications/experience will I need?
The candidate will be studying towards relevant IT degree and have some understanding of:

  • SQL
  • An object-orientated language e.g. C#, Java
  • ASP (Classic or .NET)
  • JavaScript, JQuery
  • HTML
  • XML/JSON
  • AJAX

What character attributes would best suit the role?

Software Engineers work on individual tasks within a team, so the candidate must be self motivated as well as being capable of working well with others.  Excellent communication and a critical eye for detail will also serve the role well.  We look for developers that are passionate about learning, and spreading knowledge.  Placement students will experience pair and buddy programming, along with individual projects.

What training will be provided?
Formal training sessions, buddy programming and on-the-job training are all part of the extensive training provided. On top of this, every Software Engineer has half a day per week Personal Development Time.

When is the application closing date?
Put quite simply, we don’t set one. Although we are flexible and typically take on more students than most companies do, places are limited so the earlier you apply, the better your chances.

What salary will I earn?
We offer a very competitive salary along with an extensive benefits package. This will be discussed further at the interview stage.

Is there opportunity to secure a permanent job after I graduate?
Absolutely! Many of our existing Software Engineers are former placement students. Those who are successful in securing a permanent position will be paid throughout their final year and kept in touch with the team through our many and varied social events.

When is the start date of the job?
Industrial placements start in July each year and last for twelve months. For details of other internships, email recruitment@webappuk.com.

How can I apply?
