An exciting collaboration is forming between Web Applications UK, The Centre of Excellence and Oldham Athletic. Held in the Laticzone study centre, we will be bringing free computer programming classes to the children of Oldham.
Based at Boundary Park, Laticzone is a study centre set up in 2003 under the Playing for Success scheme. Centres like Laticzone use the environment of football and other sports clubs to help motivate pupils to learn via their out of school hours study support sessions. Ten years on, the centre is evolving to give the children of Oldham the skills needed for a successful future.
The code clubs will introduce children aged 9-13 into the world of programming. Our Chief Executive, Craig said of the project: “Coding is becoming an essential skill in our increasingly digital age. We’re keen to close the skills gap that exists both in our town and nationally. With Laticzone, we can ensure that local children are given the best possible opportunities to learn about software and web development from an early age.”
Starting in September, the code clubs will run on Thursdays (6-7pm) and Fridays (3:30-4:30pm).
