Our industrial placement students have been with us for around 10 months now and this summer will see the end of their placement year. The 7 students currently with us all study at either Manchester Metropolitan University, Salford University or The University of Manchester, but students from any university are welcome to apply here.
Matt and Ryan are students at Salford University, one studying Software Engineering and the other Computer Science. As part of their degree, they are required to present to their lecturers and a range of students who are in their first or second year. During their presentation, Ryan and Matt explained what a day in the life of an industrial placement student is like at Web Applications UK. They echoed the sentiments of all our other IPs; expressing that they love the way they are treated as any other employee, giving them a good feel for the industry. Ryan says “Working as an IP at Web Apps has allowed me to develop my technical skills to enable me to meet customer expectations whilst maintaining a high standard of quality in the software I write. The skills learnt here will be invaluable in my final year”
Not only are the students nurtured throughout their placement year, if they are successful at the end of their time here, they will be offered a job and paid through their final year of university. We will really miss our current IPs when they go back to university to complete their degree but they will be invited back to staff outings and events. At the same time, we are more than excited about welcoming a new group of Webbies into the Web Applications UK family.
We attend many recruitment fairs at local universities as well as the national fairs throughout the year, we are always looking for new Webbies to join our team. This year, we have a record 11 industrial placement students starting in July and we are still recruiting!
