We're having a ball (or two)

A busy weekend for Oldham is approaching, with the Mayor’s Ball taking place on Friday and the Kingfisher Ball on Saturday. As an Oldham business that takes pride in our community, we are gladly supporting both events!

Every year the Mayor of Oldham holds a Civic and Charity Ball at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, Oldham. As current Mayor, Councillor Olwen Chadderton will be holding this year’s celebration on Friday 8th March to raise money for her chosen charities; Oldham Young Carers Project, Alzheimer’s Society and Oldham Liaison of Ex-Servicemen Association.

The Oldham Young Carers Project aims to recognise and support young people who are involved in caring for family members. To achieve this, the project is devoted to raising public awareness about the particular needs of children with responsibilities and providing counselling, workshops and social activities for young carers.

Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading research and support charity for people with dementia, their families and carers. The local Carer Support Group in Oldham meets monthly to help current carers looking after for a loved one with dementia.

Oldham Liaison of Ex-Servicemen Association provide a welfare fund to relieve ex-servicemen or women and their dependents from difficult circumstances. In particular, grants are provided for clothing, holidays and any other purpose which may relieve hardship and distress.

We’re regular attendees of the Oldham Mayor’s Ball, but we are especially excited to attend this year since Councillor Olwen Chadderton officially opened The Centre of Excellence in July. We even have a plaque bearing her name fixed to the wall of our main training area!

The Kingfisher Ball is taking place the next evening, on Saturday 9th March at the White Hart Inn in Lydgate, Oldham. This is the main annual fundraising event for The Kingfisher Community Special School, which provides a purposeful and enjoyable learning environment for children with special educational needs.

As the seventh annual ball, it has a lot to live up to – the previous six have raised in excess of £50,000 for projects at the school, as well as awareness in the community of their great work. It seems the evening is set to be just as big a success as all tickets have sold out! The red themed event will include fantastic food and entertainment along with the opportunity to bid and win great ‘money can’t buy’ prizes. To top it off, TV presenters Lynn Faulds Wood and Oldham-born John Stapleton are hosting the evening.

As official sponsors of Sale Sharks, we are providing a raffle/auction prize for both events – exclusive tickets for a Sale Sharks home game at Salford City stadium!

Check back next week for photos and a full update on these two fantastic events.
