On Friday 16th November, Web Applications UK joined the rest of the country in raising money for Children in Need. This amazing charity raises well over £20m every year, making a real difference to the lives of children all over the UK.
Webbies donated £2 to the charity for a non-uniform day and wore spotty clothes and/or brought in their teddy bear for the day! In keeping with the Children in Need theme, during lunchtime, we held a Teddy Bears’ Picnic whereby we all brought in party food! For a change, we veered away from cake and instead we devoured sandwiches, sausage rolls, pork pies, jelly, sweets and biscuits!
Word got around of our fundraising activities and in the afternoon, we had a visitor from the Oldham Chronicle who wanted to spread the word of Web Applications UK’s Teddy Bears’ Picnic! Alongside the picnic, one of our Quality Managers, Clare decided to offer face painting, with the proceeds going to Children in Need. Many Webbies got into the spirit of it and before we knew it, we had a dog, a cat, a tiger and our very own Pudsey Bear sat in the office!
As one of the more, shall we say, talkative people in the office, I pledged to do a sponsored silence for the day. Enjoying the peace, people were more than willing to donate money to charity in exchange for my silence. By the end of the day, I managed to rack up over £250 in donations for Children in Need! It was extremely difficult, but I managed to prove everyone wrong and kept my silence for 8 whole hours. I haven’t stopped talking about it since!
