The Rising Star of the Year award is given to an individual who has excelled through innovation, an ability to drive change, has encouraged teamwork and shown leadership within an organisation. Being shortlisted for this highly sought-after title at the Travolution Awards was enough to get us excited. So imagine our reaction when our Chief Executive, Craig Dean won the award!
This year, the Travolution Awards ceremony took place in Troxy – an Art Deco former cinema in East London. Travolution have developed a tradition of alternative venues, with the Awards being held at The Roundhouse in Camden last year and the Battersea Power Station in 2010. While we were shortlisted and highly commended last year for Best Technology Provider, this is the first year we have taken home an award!
A total of 30 awards were given on the night and our category, Rising Star of the Year, was towards the end of the evening. Our anticipation was building and the introduction of Craig as the winner only got as far as “he was this year awarded North West Entrepreneur of the Year” before we erupted into applause and cheering. It’s safe to say that Craig got the loudest cheer of the night!
Our customers, Farm & Cottage Holidays won the award for Best Accommodation Website, well deserved we would say! James Morris, Managing Director and James Garnett, Online Director went up to collect the award, giving us a wave to acknowledge our contribution to their win. We’re so thrilled for them so well done Farm & Cottage Holidays!
Entertainment for the evening was bizarre but definitely got everyone talking. Opening with 2011 Britain’s Got Talent act ‘Up and Over It’, performing an Irish dance with their hands. The closing act was Kiki Kaboom, an original burlesque dancer who performed as Chav-a-rella. Comedian Marcus Brigstocke was the main star of the show, hosting the ceremony and presenting the awards.
