The Oldham Gala Dinner is an annual black tie event organised by the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. As our Chief Executive, Craig Dean is also the Oldham President of the GMCC, he hosted this year’s dinner on Friday. Backing Craig in his endeavours to improve Oldham’s business community, Web Applications UK sponsored the event at The White Hart, Lydgate.

As an excellent networking event for members of the GMCC, the dinner also provides an opportunity for non-members to see the benefits of joining the Chamber. Not only that, the evening allows Oldham businesses to celebrate their successes and positivity for the next year.

Martyn Torr, Business Editor of the Oldham Chronicle, was the compere for the evening. Introducing the speakers in his usual tongue-in-cheek manner, Martyn set the friendly tone for the night. Craig made a quick speech thanking us all for coming and encouraging everyone to stop worrying about the economy and focus on their future. He then went on to list some of the reasons Oldham has to smile – Mahdlo, outstanding educational institutions and excelling businesses.

In early October Craig was chosen as The North West Entrepreneur of The Year. On Friday, Michelle Geoghegan from the Chamber presented Craig with his award and wished him luck for the national ceremony at the end of November.

Comedian, Josh Daniels was the after dinner speaker of the night. His thought-provoking comedy and humourous songs quickly won over the audience, earning him a huge round of applause at the end. Before and during dinner, we also had a magician to entertain us with card tricks and mind reading.

A raffle was held towards the end of the night with proceeds being given to the new Oasis Academy Oldham. Prizes included an extravagant cake pop stand from Sweet and Sinful Cupcakes by Sue, Sale Sharks tickets, a meal at The White Hart and Manchester United tickets. Over £400 was raised for the new academy and one of our Project Managers, Kerry won for the second year running, bagging herself a bottle of Moët.

A great time was had by all and it was fantastic to celebrate the successes in Oldham over the past year. We are already excited for next year!
