To celebrate the 75th anniversary of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit being published for the very first time, we have been celebrating hobbit-style with a scrumptious Second Breakfast.
The Hobbit is a classic fantasy novel published in 1937 that was intended for children, but is loved today by kids and adults alike. As a prequel to the popular Lord of the Rings Trilogy, this story tells the tale of how the hobbits got their hands on the dangerous One Ring in the first place.
The Second Breakfast was inspired by the ideals cherished by hobbits everywhere: camaraderie, companionship and, of course, a love of good food. Tea, toast, scones and seed cake were aplenty as we got together at 11am sharp to eat, drink and be merry. Bilbo would be very proud!
Coincidentally (or not, depending on how cynically-minded you are), the movie is due to be released on 28th November 2012. If you have never read The Hobbit before, I would highly recommend the read. I’m currently only part way through but so far, so good and I’m assured it just gets better.
