Happy Programmers' Day!

Jack Simpson

Head of Marketing and Communications

I know it was you, Fredo.

Today is a great day, a day where we celebrate the brilliance of programmers and show them our whole-hearted appreciation. Yes, today is Programmers’ Day – the international professional holiday celebrated on the 256th day of each year.

As is customary with any celebration at Web Applications UK, we began the festivities with cake! The baking talents of various Webbies were on display in the form of chocolate cake, peanut butter brownies and more.

Thank a Dev was introduced as a way for us all to say thank you to a developer who has helped us in some way. Everyone was invited to email their thanks to be added to a shared list. The result is a mix of the heart-warming “thank you for your support” with the amusing “thanks for the drink on the last night out”!

A joke competition was held for the best joke related to programming. After receiving pages of jokes, an independent adjudicator was appointed and the winner was chosen… me!

Why did the programmer quit his job?
Because he didn’t get arrays

In return for my hilarious joke I received the ultimate prize – a tin of chocolates! The rest of the jokes will feature as our Joke of the Week in the company update every Monday.

At Web Applications UK, Programmers’ Day has been enjoyed by all, roll on next year!
