Coinciding with the Opening Ceremony of London 2012, the Prize Ceremony for the Web Applications UK Office Olympics took place today.
The typical Webbie way to mark a special occasion is with cake, and we had a LOT of cake today. Sweet treats were aplenty throughout the office including an amazing red, white and blue cake made by Nikki Schofield.
At 2pm, the winners and spectators gathered in the downstairs kitchen area for the official Prize Ceremony. With the Olympic anthem playing in the background, it was a proud day for all. Starting with the first event, Paper Toss, each winner was presented with their gold, silver or bronze medal along with a mystery envelope. The envelopes contained invitations to watch an Olympic event on TV during work time. Events have been chosen that relate to the game won. For example, the winners of Rubber Band Archery will be watching an Archery event. Food will be provided for the victors, chosen by the winner of the gold medal.
There were some astounding athletes among us that received more than one medal. Claire Barker won two silver medals for Mouse Mat Discus and Kinect Olympics, giving her the acclaimed title of Best Female Athlete. But it was Chris Haslam who stole the show, taking one gold medal for Kinect Olympics and two silver medals for Paper Toss and Keyboard Sprint. Truly an outstanding performance, making him Best Athlete of the Web Applications UK Office Olympics 2012.
Congratulations to all the winners, we hope you enjoy your chocolate medals and your Olympic event!
