With the finishing line in sight, Web Applications is delighted to announce our unwavering support for Mahdlo, a project especially designed for the youth of Oldham, which is due to open on 12th March 2012!
The Mahdlo Youth Zone is certainly obtaining local attention – the recent unveiling of a striking custom-made sculpture (which will be the first thing visitors see) brought a host of the region’s local dignitaries to Oldham, as well as coverage from local press. With a £5 million investment from central government and substantial local support from Oldham Council, MAHDLO is set to cause a stir.
Having had a look around the Mahdlo site on Egerton Street, we can confirm that even in its unfinished state, the facility is incredibly impressive. Web Applications Chief Executive Craig Dean thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Mahdlo Development Manager, Claire Crossfield (left).
The Mahdlo facilities are open to all young people in Oldham, in exchange for an annual fee of £5 and a per-entry fee of just 50p. The project aims to provide individuals between the ages of 16 and 21 an outlet designed to meet their needs, providing somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to. 25 activity sessions will be scheduled to take place every evening, getting the children of Oldham off the streets and into a ‘safe haven’, where they can make new friends and enjoy new hobbies.
We looked around the impressive building site, which will soon house a cinema, a media room, basketball courts, a dance studio and many more facilities that will truly serve the youth of Oldham in a positive way. As of March 2012, this wall (right) will serve Oldham’s youth as a climbing wall!
We are very much looking forward to seeing how the Mahdlo Youth Zone projects benefits Oldham’s young people. With volunteering opportunities also available to all local businesses, Web Applications also looks forward to contributing IT expertise in the future.
