Saulo Ng, a student at Oldham College, has spent the last 6 weeks on a summer placement at Web Applications UK. Here he describes his experience of working with the team.
As my time here at Web Applications comes to an end, I have to say I have really enjoyed working here. Over the past 6 weeks, I’ve learned lots of new things that I will take away with me and use in the future – that includes the fantastic experience of working with the WebApps team, who have been so friendly and welcoming.
I’m grateful for the opportunity of working in the Web Apps office, as it has allowed me to gain some additional knowledge and skills in ICT, which will be extremely useful to my A-level studies, as well as preparing me for future employment. Some of the skills I’ve gained here, such as PAT testing or making Ethernet cables, are skills I’d probably never get to learn in college, so learning these things now will really help me in the real world of ICT.
During my time here, I learned lots of new things, such as creating images for deployment servers, PAT testing electrical devices and a few handy techniques in performing day-to-day tasks. But probably the most important experience was the responsibility of working (as opposed to studying) and being given jobs to complete as a daily routine procedure that have to be performed every day, such as the network check-ups. It gave me the feeling that I was contributing to the team and it helped me realise that I will be doing something similar soon, which helped me think about my future career path and where I’d like to be in a few years’ time.
My 6 weeks here seems to have gone very quickly, as it only feels like I’ve been here a short time – this is probably because I have enjoyed my time here so much. But for now I think it’s time to kick back, be a lazy student and enjoy the so-called summer!
